Common Beauty

Yesterday, I (Rory) went for a walk with my friend on the Boston Common. As we sat on a bench talking, I noticed that there is a random pink lamp post, and it made my day. Seriously.

Do you ever find random things in life that make you think they were put there just for you? I think that about a lot of things (especially pink lamp posts). It makes things special for me. It's just one of the ways that I try to cultivate an eye for "random beauties".

Try to be open to those random beauties in your day. And don't be afraid to think they're just for you!

Friday Quote

Happy Weekend to all!

Allston Beauty

On President's Day, I (Rory) went for a walk in the Boston neighborhood of Allston. Not gonna to lie, some parts of it give me the heebie-jeebies. But I encountered this outdoor wall art that I thought was just fabulous!

It just goes to show that beauty can be found just about anywhere! I don't recommend finding the sketchiest parts of town just to prove the point, but I believe that as long as there are people, there is creativity; and when there's creativity, you find beauty.

Valentine Beauty

Hello Beauties!

Last week was Valentine's Day, and I (Rory) couldn't be any more excited! I've never liked Valentine's Day very much. I considered it campy and commercialized. I still do. However, I recently got a new impression of the holiday. Here it is-

  • Valentine's Day is a reminder of all the love we encounter year-round. I see it as an opportunity to appreciate and celebrate my loved ones. I know I don't do it enough.
  • Valentine's Day is an excuse to love on people we secretly think are awesome, but feel weird letting them know (As if they don't already!).
  • For those of you who begrudgingly acknowledge "Single Awareness Day"- lighten up! Whoever made Valentine's Day for couples? Put that negative energy towards loving other "significant others" in your life! And make some time to be loved in return.

Okay, that's my rant.

No one ever died from too much love. Let's test the limits.
These are leftover valentines that I helped make. I still haven't quite decided what I will do with them. Any ideas? Consider them my valentines to you!

Brookline Beauty

I (Rory) was recently visiting my brother in the Boston neighborhood of Brookline. As I walked, I noticed that the houses in his neighborhood are awesome! I passed so many fun colored homes that you don't find in the downtown area.

I thought it was so cool how these homes can channel the bright colors of spring even in February. Just seeing them made me very happy (and excited for spring).

I hope they have the same effect on you!

About Me (Alysha Marie)

My name is Alysha Marie and yes, I am posing with a cow (don't worry no cows were harmed in the making of this photo). I enjoy life, seriously, I do. I have adventures and have yet to be arrested, which I perceive as very impressive. I'm in love with For King and Country (a lovely little band), my MacBook Peaches (yes I name my laptop....and also my car), and Africa (I'm going to Senegal this July with fingers crossed). I'm obsessed with coffee, clothing (my closet can attest to that) and philanthropy. I'm just starting this crazy adventure called life with graduation just four little months ahead and am excited, but a tad nervous, about starting college in the fall.

I am writing to awaken the poetry of living that has been lost by our generation. We're so performance driven that most of the time, beauty and the enjoyment of life falls wayside as we jump to the next platform. We all fall victim to it but hopefully, this little blog, one of millions, will help remind you of the beauty that surrounds you.

About Me (Rory)

RORY [ROR-ee]
1. n. Anglicized version of the Irish RUAIDHRÍ, meaning red (ruadh) king (rhí)
2. n. A 20-year old college student from Boston, MA.

Greetings beauties of the blogosphere!

My name is Rory, and I am a junior journalism major at some school in the amazing city of Boston. I love Winston Churchill, flowers, the piano, ballroom dancing, fancy quotes, cameras, fantasy novels, and Christmas lights.

In the recent months I have tried to cultivate a beauty radar. That is seeing beauty everywhere I go, and in everyone I meet. It's a work-in-progress.

I believe that beauty is an essential part of life. It inspires us and brings joy out of everyday routines. I am writing in this blog because I want to share the beauty of daily life with the world, and hopefully inspire others to do the same.

Welcome to the Eye.

"Eye of the Beholder" is about capturing the joy, beauty, and spirit of living. It acknowledges those that make the art that feeds our souls, and the hearts that seek a life inspired by the beauty around them. We’re here to showcase these hidden gems and share their stories. We want to create a new type of beauty blog and remember the beauty of living.

We're two crazy friends, bonded by a love of food, and the pursuit of the next great hairstyle, makeup trick, manicure, or outfit. Rory is the creative genius, and Alysha Marie is the rogue adventurer. Together we’ll capture the beauty of living. We'd love for you to join us.

Love,
Rory & Alysha Marie
