Challenge Accepted (Hair Bow)
Hello beauty bloggers!
This week, we launched our first-ever Hair Challenge! The first request came in for a hair bow (like a bow made out of hair). I've tried this 'do on my own before, but for this, I followed the tutorial at A Beautiful Mess, by Elsie Lanson.
This tutorial is very easy to follow, however, the style is difficult when working with short or layered hair. I recommend using mousse on the selected "bow area" to prevent tips poking out, and giving a smooth, sleek look.
My friend, Sam let me model the bow on her. Doesn't she have great hair?

Lunch on the Common
While on the Common the other day, my friend Ka'ai and I saw this adorable couple sharing a picnic. We loved the idea of bringing lunch outside on a beautiful day. I can be sulky when the weather's nice and I am at work or in class. However, I can forget how easy it is to get lunch-to-go and spend a few minutes in the sun. What a difference it makes!
If you can, spend some time outside this week. It's refreshing for body, mind, and soul.

Hair Challenge
Ever have a crazy idea for a hairstyle, but didn't know how to do it? Here's your chance to find out!
Eye of the Beholder is having its first Hair Challenge!
Because it is difficult to find a willing volunteer to let us cut/color their hair, we will limit the challenges to non-permanent styles.
Send your challenges to anewbeautyblog@gmail.com, and let the fun begin!

Happy Spring
"See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land." -Song of Solomon 2:12
Happy Spring everybody!

Dance Style
I love Spring for many reasons: warm weather, beautiful flowers, spring fashion, my birthday, and it's dance season! Middle and high schools all over are holding semi-formals and proms, and I just love the excitement that goes with it. However, with the joy and excitement tends to come stress-
What should I wear?
Who can I bring as a date?
Should I go stag?
Limo?
Party?
What the heck is a boutonnière?!!
But along with the stress comes opportunities to take some positive risks by daring to be different or stepping out of your comfort zone.
This past weekend, my sister and brother attended a semi-formal, and I am proud to say took a few risks.
Their good friend, Jess took a risk by letting me give her a subtle smokey eye. She also let me experiment with her hair. Although she wanted a classic waterfall braid, I was able to take some creative license by doing a soft boho wave, rather than sticking to the standard curl. Isn't she fabulous?

My brother, Tristan also allowed me to experiment with his hair. He is very particular with his style, so I felt honored that he let me have my fun. I think the crazy up-up-and-away-look suits his personality perfectly!
Lastly, my sister, Tessa was very brave to hand over her sceptor (aka makeup brush). She loves makeup, and it was quite the task to give her a natural look that accentuated all of her beautiful features. I like to go to the dramatic side, so it was very exciting to find a compromise that suited her.

Food for Thought
"Always be generous with your encouraging words, you may find they will inspire others to be the best they can be."

Ever have just a crazy season in your life? Like a month or two when you wonder if life will stop spinning for two seconds so that you can get least paint your nails, actually enjoy the tea your drinking and catch up on you Once Upon A Time (I am SO woefully behind). The craziness has yet to cease but this quote is a challenge to myself and to you: Even in the craziness, that we can find one encourage word to say to another because building people up is prettier than tearing someone down.

Happy Friday!
Speak only good things.
Maintain balance.
Un-plug.
Make today better.
Take the stairs.
Breathe.
Play outside everyday!
Relax.
Share lunch with a good friend.
Be mindful.
Pay it forward.
I (Rory) found this while eating with my brother at Panera Bread. I was inspired. Hope you are too! Have a happy, inspiring weekend!

MIT Beauty
How insanely cool is this sculpture? If you're in the Boston area, you might recognize it from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). I (Rory) ran into it last week while going to a swing dance social hosted by MIT's Lindy Hop Society.
Wait, whaaat??
Yes, Lindy Hop Society. Don't judge a book by its cover. Although it's known by for its up-and-coming mathematicians and scientists, MIT has some pretty rad swing dancers! (And some nice sculpture!)It's just another example of finding beauty in unexpected places.
