Back Bay Fens

Last summer, I made it a personal mission to see every park in the Emerald Necklace Conservancy- a collection of parks around the city of Boston. The Back Bay Fens is located right outside Fenway Park, and is an excellent location for walks, pick-up sports, or just some nature eye-candy!

In addition to seeing beautiful parks, it's fun to have a goal. This one doesn't have a deadline because my life is already full of them, and who needs another? It's just something that I like doing (being outdoors) with a little incentive. It's also a good reason to drag a friend..."Oh please, it's a personal goal of mine..."

Who can resist? So, in light of this season of renewal, I challenge you to challenge yourself. Spice things up a little. Give yourself a goal to work towards. Who knows what memories, friends, new goals you'll make along the way?

See you at the Fens.

Lunch on the Common

While on the Common the other day, my friend Ka'ai and I saw this adorable couple sharing a picnic. We loved the idea of bringing lunch outside on a beautiful day. I can be sulky when the weather's nice and I am at work or in class. However, I can forget how easy it is to get lunch-to-go and spend a few minutes in the sun. What a difference it makes!
If you can, spend some time outside this week. It's refreshing for body, mind, and soul.

MIT Beauty

How insanely cool is this sculpture? If you're in the Boston area, you might recognize it from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). I (Rory) ran into it last week while going to a swing dance social hosted by MIT's Lindy Hop Society
Wait, whaaat??
Yes, Lindy Hop Society. Don't judge a book by its cover. Although it's known by for its up-and-coming mathematicians and scientists, MIT has some pretty rad swing dancers! (And some nice sculpture!)It's just another example of finding beauty in unexpected places.

Common Beauty

Yesterday, I (Rory) went for a walk with my friend on the Boston Common. As we sat on a bench talking, I noticed that there is a random pink lamp post, and it made my day. Seriously.

Do you ever find random things in life that make you think they were put there just for you? I think that about a lot of things (especially pink lamp posts). It makes things special for me. It's just one of the ways that I try to cultivate an eye for "random beauties".

Try to be open to those random beauties in your day. And don't be afraid to think they're just for you!

Allston Beauty

On President's Day, I (Rory) went for a walk in the Boston neighborhood of Allston. Not gonna to lie, some parts of it give me the heebie-jeebies. But I encountered this outdoor wall art that I thought was just fabulous!

It just goes to show that beauty can be found just about anywhere! I don't recommend finding the sketchiest parts of town just to prove the point, but I believe that as long as there are people, there is creativity; and when there's creativity, you find beauty.

Brookline Beauty

I (Rory) was recently visiting my brother in the Boston neighborhood of Brookline. As I walked, I noticed that the houses in his neighborhood are awesome! I passed so many fun colored homes that you don't find in the downtown area.

I thought it was so cool how these homes can channel the bright colors of spring even in February. Just seeing them made me very happy (and excited for spring).

I hope they have the same effect on you!
